What this tour is about: This is a private tour to Ajmer, customised to your interests.
Ajmer is a holy city, containing the tomb of the most revered Sufi saint Shaikh Moinudeen Chishti. Also known as Garib Nawaz, Benefactor of the Poor, the Shaikh founded the influential Chistiya order in India. The tomb (Dargah Sharif) is a major pilgrimage site. The Mughal Emperor Akbar used to come here on pilgrimage from Agra in observance of a vow he had made when praying for a son.
Apart from the dargah, Ajmer also has other sites of interest:
- Akbar’s Palace and Museum, with an excellent collection of sculpture, coinage, art, craft and armoury (located inside the Akbari Fort)
- Adhai din ka Jhopra, a Sultanate era mosque, the oldest surviving monument in Ajmer.
- Soniji Ki Nasiyan, a Jain temple known for its Swarna Nagari (City of Gold) main chamber, with incredibly ornate gold-plated figures and carvings depicting Jaina mythology.
- Ana Sagar, a lake built in the 12th century, with Mughal pavilions
